SWIMMING POOL COMPANY CHOSEN FOR ABC - TV'S EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER Grand Blanc, Michigan, August 8, 2004.
It took Midwest
Fiberglass Pool Distributors just 18 hours to prove it was a
prime-time player.
The Grand Blanc firm,
owned and operated by Greg Hoover, was recently selected to install a
one-piece fiberglass pool - valued at $ 35,000 - for the popular TV show
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The reality series dramatically
remodels a home for a much deserving family each week. For the Midwest
Fiberglass Pool distributor's episode, the ABC TV series came to the rescue
of the Vardon family of Oak Park, MI. The metro Detroit area family consists
of four family members. Both of the parents, Larry and Judy Vardon, are
deaf. Their youngest son Lance, 12 years old, is both blind and autistic.
Their oldest son Stefan, 14 years old, is the family interpreter.
Since everyday life
is enough of a struggle for the Vardon family, ABC decided to give the
family a backyard oasis that would be virtually maintenance free. Their
existing above ground pool was quickly replaced with a one-piece fiberglass
in ground pool. Their new pool was outfitted with every piece of high
tech gadgetry on the market today including an electronic water purifier
which replaces the need for chlorine, a turn-key operated hydraulic cover
for cleanliness and safety, and an in-home digital control center that
monitors the pool equipment 24 hours a day. To achieve a stunning look,
stamped and colored concrete was used around the pool along with a cedar
privacy fence on the property lines.
Amazingly, the entire
transformation of the Vardon home had to be completed in less than 5 days.
This meant that the installation of the pool and all of the accessories
could not take more than 3 days or there would not be enough time to finish
the garage and landscaping. Since fiberglass pools can be delivered, set,
and filled with water in less that one day, it was naturally a perfect
choice.
"We're on
track to install 250 pools this year and each one is special to us,"
said Hoover, "But putting in this pool for the Vardon family was
extra special. We're very proud we could be a part of such a compelling
and worthwhile project."
Hoover said Viking
Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers donated the pool shell and some of the hardware.
His firm contributed the labor, machinery, and accessories to complete
the installation.
The producers of the
Extreme Home Makeover were so impressed with the Grand Blanc firm's efficiency
and professionalism, they said that they would gladly invite Midwest Fiberglass
Pool Distributor's to participate in another show.
According to ABC,
the Vardon family's extreme home makeover will air sometime in late October
or early November.
